Pharmacists are expected to improve both proper use of drugs and quality of life of patients. We would like to perform studies on drug interactions and on researches related to drug interactions, by cooperating with medical stuffs in clinical area.
2. Studies on clinical pharmacy and critical care medicine
We have been studying on clinical pharmacy and critical care medicine, and reported them in some international and domestic journals. As to clinical studies, they are from an optimization of therapy to widening of professions of pharmacists. When it comes to our studies on basic science, we are investigating both mechanisms and drugs on acute respiratory distress syndrome (more than 10,000 of people are dying from the disease in the USA a year).
3. Studies on drug formulation
Physicopharmaceutical researches on drugs are being performed so as to improve patientfs compliance. We are trying to find ways how we can make it easier for patients to take drugs which do not have palatable taste and/or have irritating taste, through, 1) changing their taste using some chemicals such as cyclodextrins. 2) developing new chewable tablets (oral dissolution tablets) in stead of those which can not be swallowed easily.

MESSAGE TO STUDENTS
[Tsuruta]
Let's think over and talk about groles of pharmacistsh with us in order to understand 1) pharmacist works in hospitals and pharmacies, 2) their effort to improve the works. Your positive attitude is quite welcome.
[Moriuchi]
I) You should widen your view and brush up your English skill, so that you can think about and/or judge things from international point of view.
II) You should have something you are really good at, in order that you can be valuable (useful) in your workplace in the future.
III) Remember that your opponent (rival) can be in your mind, which interferes with your success. You should be mentally strong enough to beat the opponent.
[Ishiguro]
All what you do in clinical area is supposed to be for patients. The clinical pharmacists should do efforts everyday to acquire the skill of how to ease patients mentally and physically. If one wants to do something for another, the person would exert his/her enormous power well. In addition to acquisition of knowledge and techniques, you should learn how to give compassion and thankfulness. Keep in your mind that there are patients who are waiting for you and need you.
